  • DATE: March 15 – May 10, 2021
  • DELIVERY METHOD: 8-week online. Allow 2 – 3 hours per week.
  • PREREQUISITES: None
  • CE HOURS: 17
  • COURSE FEE: $198 (discounted 10% thru 12/31/21). All course material is provided.
  • SECTIONS: Participants will be assigned to a section with no more than 15.
  • FACULTY OVERSIGHT:  Jim Reynolds, Ed.D., MAC and Jaime Picanol, Psy.D.
  • WITHIN EACH MODULE participants are expected to participate in the NON-LIVE weekly discussion. You will be able to interact with others in your section, as well as the instructor, via the discussion board.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

  • This Substance Use Disorders course has been expanded from 6 to 8 modules, and from 13 to 17 CE hours. Module 7 covers the special populations of children & adolescents, LGBTQ+, and criminal justice clients. Module 8 is on process addictions (gambling addiction, eating disorders, shopping addiction, cyber addiction, sex addiction, and internet/video game addiction), taught by the author/teacher of our Neurobiology of Addictions course, Dr. Jaime Picanol. 
  • This important and timely course examines many of the fundamental aspects of Substance Use Disorders (SUD). It presents basic information regarding the dynamics of substance use, including the neurological, psychological, medical, and social effects of substance abuse. The course will cover “models of understanding” that have historically evolved, as well as contemporary methods of treatment. The effects of substance abuse upon the family system will also be presented, as well as the “survival roles” that family members often adopt. Finally, the course will explore relapse, including signs and symptoms, stages of relapse, and relapse prevention strategies. Created and taught by Jim Reynolds, Ed.D., LMHC, and Jaime Picanol, Psy.D., this course covers the following topics:
