COURSE DESCRIPTION
- This Substance Use Disorders course has been expanded from 6 to 8 modules, and from 13 to 17 CE hours. Module 7 covers the special populations of children & adolescents, LGBTQ+, and criminal justice clients. Module 8 is on process addictions (gambling addiction, eating disorders, shopping addiction, cyber addiction, sex addiction, and internet/video game addiction), taught by the author/teacher of our Neurobiology of Addictions course, Dr. Jaime Picanol.
- This important and timely course examines many of the fundamental aspects of Substance Use Disorders (SUD). It presents basic information regarding the dynamics of substance use, including the neurological, psychological, medical, and social effects of substance abuse. The course will cover “models of understanding” that have historically evolved, as well as contemporary methods of treatment. The effects of substance abuse upon the family system will also be presented, as well as the “survival roles” that family members often adopt. Finally, the course will explore relapse, including signs and symptoms, stages of relapse, and relapse prevention strategies.
